India Gold production up 2.2% to 137 kg in Nov 2012

World’s top gold consumer but minnows in production,India’s output of the yellow metal rose marginally by 2.2 percent to 137 kg in November last year.

According to country’s Mineral ministry, India also produced 2061 carat of diamonds,lower by 17.6 percent from October, during the period.

India’s index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector in November 2012 was lower by 0.7% compared to that of the preceding month.

The mineral sector has shown a negative growth of 5.5% during November 2012 as compared to that of the corresponding month of previous year.

The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during November 2012 was Rs. 17004 crore.

The contribution of petroleum (crude) was the highest at Rs. 5673 crore (33%). Next in the order of importance were: coal Rs. 5365 crore, iron ore Rs. 2433 crore, natural gas (utilized) Rs. 2024 crore, lignite Rs. 362 crore and limestone Rs. 345 crore. These six minerals together contributed about 95% of the total value of mineral production in November 2012.

India produced 11,000 tons of copper concentrate 98 lakh tons of iron ore and 179,000 tons of Zinc concentrate also during the period.
