India enters a really festive mood ahead of Diwali

Diwali , one of the important festivals of India is at our doorstep. Rather than a festival it can be considered as a purchasing season of the country. During the season there is a high demand for all commodities including precious metals. India markets are in the peak of sales during this time and eagerly watched by observers around the world

The festival and wedding seasons account for 60-70 per cent of all jewellery sales in the country.Gold sales rose by up to 30 per cent as demand for wedding jewellery attracted more buyers on the auspicious Dhanteras despite high prices.Dhanteras is the pre-Diwali auspicious occasion when big majority of Indians buy gold and silver in large quantity.

Light-weight jewellery and impulse buying online is the latest trend in the jewellery market.People are purchasing gold jewellery more as an investment, anticipating a future rise in prices. Diamond jewellery has also become a good choice. The demand for light-weight jewellery has gone up almost 60 per cent.
The pulses market has witnessed a great boom even though the prices had gone up by over 25 per cent. The reason for the price rise is due to increased demand during the festival season. The edible oil demand of the country has also risen due to the festival season.

In automobiles, mid-level cars that run on diesel remain favourite buys this season. Buyers who had planned to spend Rs 8-9 lakh on high-end cars are opting for those that cost between Rs 4.5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh owing to inflation and the slowdown in the markets, according to reports.

Chocolates are the most important part of Indian festivals. During festival season there is high demand for traditional chocolates as well as sweets in the country. According to the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) survey, demand for chocolates is steadily increasing in the range of 45% majority in cities like Ahemdabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Cochin, etc. as the corporates and others are using it as a Gifts.

The demand for designer chocolates, handmade truffles, ganaches and solid chocolates of different types and exotic flavours have been at an all-time high in the country. The demand for chocolate will increase the demand for sugar, pulses, edible oil as they are the important ingredients of these traditional sweets as well as chocolates.

But the Demand of Diwali cards have gone down by over 70% in the last 5 years due to advent of e-Cards, popularity of social networking sites, use of SMS, MMS and phone calls etc, as per the quick survey undertaken by ASSOCHAM-Social Development Foundation (ASDF).
